Dhami hits back at Akhilesh after his apparent swipe at Yogi

A video has gone viral where Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav is taking an apparent swipe at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, questioning who the biggest “ghuspaithiya” (infiltrator) in the state is, in a pointed reference to the BJP leader’s Uttarakhand origins.

“Sabse bade UP mein ghuspaithiya kaun hain?” (Who are the biggest infiltrators in Uttar Pradesh?), Yadav said, referring to the political debate over infiltration and migration. This video was shared by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Facebook. In a strongly worded social media post, Dhami said calling the people of Uttarakhand infiltrators was an insult to the pride of the state and the sacrifices made during its struggle for statehood.

“Uttarakhand is both Devbhoomi (land of the gods) and Veerbhoomi (land of the brave). This sacred land has given the country saints, soldiers and numerous personalities dedicated to national service,” Dhami said.

On the other hand, Yadav’s remarks appeared to target Adityanath, who was born in present-day Uttarakhand, which was part of Uttar Pradesh before the creation of the separate state in 2000.

Yadav’s comments come amid a political exchange over the issue of infiltration, with BJP leaders accusing opposition parties of treating infiltrators as a vote bank. The Samajwadi Party chief has questioned the BJP’s position and its use of data in the debate.

In an earlier remark in October 2025, Yadav had explicitly called Adityanath an “infiltrator” and said he should be sent back to Uttarakhand. He had also described the chief minister as an “ideological infiltrator”, questioning his political background before joining the BJP.

The latest remark is likely to draw attention because of its reference to the Uttarakhand connection of the Uttar Pradesh chief minister. However, the immediate context and full transcript of the latest statement need to be established before drawing a definitive conclusion about its intended target.
