More than a year after six young lives were lost in a Dehradun tragic accident, four youths were killed after their speeding SUV rammed into a parked truck in Rishikesh in Uttarakhand on Tuesday night.

Police said all the four young men in the car died on the spot near PNB City Gate on the Rishikesh-Haridwar road where the accident occurred.

The deceased have been identified as Dheeraj Jaiswal (31), Hariom Pandey (22), Karan Prasad (23), and Satyam Kumar (20), all residents of Rishikesh.

The accident was so horrific that most of the bodies were beyond recognition. All the bodies were taken out with the support of a cutter after extricating them from the mangled vehicle.

According to the police, the initial investigation revealed that the car went out of control while trying to avoid hitting a cow. The speeding SUV coming from the direction of Haridwar suddenly encountered a cow in its path. The driver swerved to the left to avoid hitting the cow, but the vehicle went out of control and crashed into a truck with a Haryana registration number parked on the side of the road.

In a previous tragic accident in November last, six people including three boys and three girls were killed and one injured when their speeding car rammed into a container at ONGC Chowk in Dehradun city. The accident was so horrific that all the six youths, hailing from Dehradun, died on the spot and the car was reduced to a mangled heap
