An engineering student from Uttar Pradesh was killed in a clash between two rival groups of an engineering college in Premnagar area of Dehradun, police said on Tuesday.
Three youths have been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred late Monday night near the Uttaranchal University where they were studying.
The violent clash occurred in Kehri village in Prem Nagar area where 22-year-old Divyanshu Jatrana, a B Tech student and a native of the Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh was severely injured in the clash. He was taken to the Doon hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Considerable time was lost as the ambulance service was not available, police said.
Later, family members of Jatrana arrived in Dehradun and filed a complaint with the police. Based on this complaint, a case was registered at the Premnagar Police Station under Sections 3(5), 61(2), 103(1), and 191(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Based on the FIR, police arrested all three accused involved in the incident, while efforts to apprehend the remaining accused are on.
The police identified the arrested students as Yuvraj Kumar (20), a resident of the Bhojpur district in Bihar; Madhur Khandelwal (19), a resident of the Udham Singh Nagar district; and Shivam Sharma (20), a resident of Patna, Bihar.
According to the police, all the students involved in the incident are pursuing B.Tech and BBA degrees at a private educational institution located in Premnagar. A long-standing rivalry regarding mutual dominance within the college had existed between the two groups.
