Girl faints as one more bear appears near school in Chamoli

A girl fainted at the sight of a bear on her way to school on Tuesday as the scare showed no sign of abating in Gopeshwar and nearby areas in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

The incident came a day after two bears barged into a school in Pokhari, close to Gopeshwar, creating scare in the area.

In the latest incident, a student of the Government Girls Inter College in Gopeshwar, the district headquarters of Chamoli, fainted after seeing the bear on her way to school. As she fainted, the girl also received minor injuries.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to a student injured in a bear attack at a school in Chamoli district on Tuesday, inquiring about his well-being.

The Chief Minister spoke on phone to Aarav Pundir, a sixth-grade student injured in the attack at the junior high school in Harishankar village of Pokhri tehsil. He praised Aarav for his bravery against the bear.

He also spoke to Divya and Deepika, the courageous girls who displayed immense courage, presence of mind, and humanitarian sensitivity in saving the children from the bear during the incident.

He directed the district administration and forest department officials to immediately increase patrolling in the affected areas and ensure additional robust security arrangements around schools, Anganwadis, and populated areas. He clarified that all necessary and effective steps should be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
