Attacks by leopard, bear continue in Uttarakhand (updating)

A leopard on Friday morning dragged away a woman in a village in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, forest officials said.

Hema Devi, wife of Gopal Singh, a resident of Dini Talli village of Dhari block in Nainital, was dragged away by the leopard when she was going to the forest to collect fodder for the cattle.

Some family members raised alarm when they saw the leopard carrying Hema Devi away and tried to scare the beast by shouting and throwing stones.

But the leopard disappeared into the forest with Hema Devi. The family members and villagers later searched the forest, but the woman was not found.

The villagers have informed the forest department about the incident.

A search operation is underway to find the woman.

Meanwhile, a woman sustained injuries in Ukhimath area in Rudraprayag district on Thursday after she was attacked by a bear. Rachana Devi (32) was attacked when she was cutting grass in the area. She was rushed to a nearby hospital.
