Uttarakhand Congress state in-charge Kumari Selja on Wednesday arrived in Rudrapur to begin her five-day tour of the hill state amid the controversy over veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat’s 15-day leave from active politics.

On her arrival, Selja participated in the district-level workers’ conference held in Rudrapur in  Udhamsingh Nagar district amid a gathering of scores of party workers and asked all the party leaders to remain united.

During this event, Selja engaged in meaningful discussions with party workers regarding various political, social, and organizational issues in preparation for the coming assembly elections early next year. She also called upon all workers to unite and enter the electoral battleground with solidarity.

Present at the workers’ conference were CWC Member Gurdeep Singh Sappal, Co-In-charge Surender Sharma, co-in-charge Manoj Yadav, State President Ganesh Godiyal, Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya, Chairman of the Election Campaign Committee Pritam Singh, Chairman of the Election Management Committee Dr. Harak Singh Rawat, former State President Karan Mahara and other leaders.

Former Chief Minister Rawat, who is on 15-day political leave, was conspicuous with his absence. Rawat is upset after the party high command postponed the entry of his loyalist Sanjay Negi from Ramnagar into Congress.

Selja is likely to meet Rawat to sort out the issues concerning him in the party. “This is a very crucial time as an under-current is definitely favouring Congress in Uttarakhand ahead of the elections. I think the party high command will be able to persuade Rawat ji in view of the larger picture which clearly shows that Congress is coming to power in 2027,” a senior party leader said.
