Three persons were detained on Thursday after they allegedly assaulted a Kashmir shawl seller in Kashipur area of Udhamsingh Nagar district in Uttarakhand.
According to police, a video went viral on the social media platform Instagram, showing some youths from the Kashipur area allegedly assaulting Bilal Ganai from Kupwara in Kashmir who has been residing in Uttarakhand for a long time. The investigation revealed that the incident occurred on December 22, 2025.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Udham Singh Nagar, Manikant Mishra, took cognizance of the matter and asked his police team to remove the video.
On December 25, 2025, the victim, Bilal Ganai, filed a written complaint regarding the incident. Based on the complaint, a case was immediately registered at Kashipur Police Station under case number 517/25, under sections 191(2), 115(2), 351(3), 352, 304, 62, 292 and 126(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police have identified three youths in the viral video and taken them into custody. A thorough investigation is underway.
SSP Mishra has clearly stated that any act that affects law and order and social harmony in the district will not be tolerated at any level.
