Top travel writer Hugh Gantzer on Wednesday was laid to rest at Camel’s Back Cemetery in the hill resort of Mussoorie in Uttarakhand.
Born in Patna in 1931, Gamtzer died at the age of 94 on Tuesday at his ancestral house in Mussoorie where he lived with his wife Colleen for nearly five decades after retiring from the Indian Navy.
Colleen died in 2024.
The couple was jointly awarded the Padma Shri for the year 2025. The award was conferred on Gantzers in recognition of their remarkable contribution to travel literature.
Due to health reasons, Gantzer was unable to travel to New Delhi to receive the award. Shailesh Bagauli, the state Home Secretary, made a special visit to their residence in Mussoorie and presented the Padma Shri.
The couple penned nearly 30 books mostly on travel literature.
