Winter-like weather conditions returned in the north India on Wednesday with rains and snowfall lashing many parts that plummeted temperatures considerably.

Many people, especially office-goers were seen wearing jackets and sweaters in the morning in many cities and towns especially in the hill resorts of Mussoorie and Nainital.

Official reports said snowfall was continuing in higher reaches of Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Rohtang and other areas of the Himalayas.

Light to heavy rains have been lashing most parts of Uttarakhand since Tuesday evening. Dehradun recorded 18 mm rains. Both maximum and minimum temperature fell 4-6 notches since Tuesday in many places in the north India including Mussoorie and Nainital.

The hill resort of Mussoorie recorded 32.4 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours that brought back cold conditions.

Reports pouring in from different hill districts said light snowfall occurred in the higher reaches of the Garhwal Himalayas.]

Light to moderate rain / thunderstorm / snowfall (at places with altitude 2800m and above)
likely to occur at most places in all districts of Uttarakhand, Met centre in Dehradun said.

During past 24 hours, Maximum temperatures remained markedly below normal to in plains as well as in hills of Uttarakhand, it said.

Weather forecast for north India: Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 Kmph) likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand on 07th & 8th April; Isolated to Scattered light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 Kmph) likely over Jammu Kashmir on 09th & 10th April, Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand on 09th April; Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 Kmph) likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh & East Rajasthan on 07th & 08th April.
