UJVN Limited’s 144 MW Chilla Hydel Power House achieved a major milestone on Friday with the successful synchronization of Unit-4 with the grid following its Renovation, Modernization and Upgradation (RMU).
The 36 MW unit was successfully operated at a 39 Mw load during the prescribed testing, demonstrating improved capacity, efficiency, performance and operational reliability after the RMU works.
UJVN Limited Managing Director Ajay Kumar Singh said the successful operation of the unit beyond its rated capacity marks a significant technical achievement. The upgraded unit is expected to contribute additional clean energy to the state over the long term while strengthening the reliability of the Chilla power house.
The RMU works involved upgrading key electrical and mechanical equipment and auxiliary systems to modern technical standards, with the objective of enhancing efficiency, reliability, safety and the operational life of the unit.
Singh credited the achievement to the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary (Energy), along with the collective efforts of UJVN engineers, officers, employees and executing agencies.
He said the successful recommissioning of Unit-4 is not merely the restoration of a generating unit but reflects UJVN’s commitment to modernising its hydropower assets, enhancing generation capacity and strengthening Uttarakhand’s energy security through reliable and clean hydropower.
