The Indian Army is facilitating the safe movement of pilgrims returning from the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and local residents across a landslide-hit stretch at Kulagarh in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district after the collapse of an NH-9 bailey bridge disrupted connectivity in the area.

The ninth batch of pilgrims returning from the sacred Kailash Mansarovar Yatra was safely assisted across the affected stretch by personnel of the Panchshul Brigade, the Army said on Friday.

According to the Army, following the landslide and collapse of the NH-9 Kulagarh bridge following heavy floods, its personnel swiftly reached the affected area and helped pilgrims and local residents negotiate the difficult terrain.

The intervention enabled the stranded pilgrims to continue their journey despite the disruption caused by the landslide and bridge collapse.

The Army said its personnel remained deployed on the ground to provide assistance and ensure safe movement of people affected by the disruption.

The incident comes amid continued challenges to road connectivity in the Kumaon region due to heavy rains, landslides and damage to bridges and roads during the monsoon.

The Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and extending assistance to civilians and pilgrims during emergencies.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which passes through the high-altitude terrain of Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, has repeatedly faced weather- and landslide-related disruptions this season.
