Sensing a favourable political opportunity for the Congress ahead of the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections, party in-charge Kumari Selja has stepped up her participation in the party’s political campaigns and organisational activities in the state.
Party sources said Selja believes the Congress must seize the opportunity presented by the Ankita Bhandari case and the controversy surrounding Rekha Arya, which have put the ruling BJP on the defensive.
Selja was seen riding pillion on a Royal Enfield motorcycle during a two-wheeler rally in Dehradun on Friday, signalling the Congress leadership’s efforts to energise party workers and build momentum ahead of the crucial electoral battle.
Later in the evening, she chaired an important meeting attended by all the top state Congress leaders to discuss the party’s preparations and strategy for the Assembly elections.
Her increased presence at political programmes and organisational meetings comes as the Congress seeks to consolidate its position and mount a strong challenge to the ruling BJP in the state.
With the Assembly elections approaching, Selja’s active involvement is seen as an effort to bring the state leadership together, strengthen the party organisation and give fresh impetus to the Congress campaign.
“Our objective is clear — to strengthen the organisation, raise people’s concerns forcefully, and carry forward the struggle for public welfare in keeping with the aspirations of the people of Uttarakhand,” said former chief minister Harish Rawat after attending one such meeting.
