Police have arrested a drug-addict for allegedly cheating a Hero MotoCorp showroom in Doiwala by taking away a new scooter after showing fake payment details on his mobile phone.

The accused, Kuljeet Singh Sethi, was arrested near Kuanwala area in Dehradun during a police check on Sunday. Police recovered the stolen Hero Destini scooter and its documents from him.

According to police, showroom owner Rahul Aggarwal lodged a complaint on October 17, alleging that Sethi visited his showroom to purchase the scooter and displayed fake payment details on his phone to make it appear that the payment had been made. He then took the vehicle away without paying.

A case was registered under Sections 318(4) and 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation was launched. Police examined CCTV footage and used informers to trace the accused.

Police said Sethi was addicted to drugs and gambling and allegedly resorted to cheating to fund his habits. He reportedly told investigators that he had sold his house because of his addictions and was currently living with his uncle in Dehradun’s Moti Bazaar.
