On the New Year Eve, the AQI level on Wednesday in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, reached 329 which was “very poor” or in red category amid thick winter smog.

Delhi and adjoining and cities too witnessed high (very poor) AQI with Delhi recording 373, Ghaziabad 312, Gurugram 328 and Noida 382, the official data showed.

This is the first time that Dehradun has recorded pollution level similar to Delhi and NCRs. “It is sad that we in Dehradun are also experiencing high pollution,” said Dr Harshpati Dobhal, a professor in Doon University.

Many people in Dehradun are seen wearing masks these days especially when they travel on two-wheelers.
