Uttarakhand cabinet minister Rekha Arya’s husband Girdhari Lal Sahu on Friday apologized after a controversial viral video purportedly shows him saying that girls are available in Bihar for Rs 20,000-25000.

Rekha Arya is the Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Development in the Pushkar Singh Dhami government.

The video is going viral on social media in which Arya’s husband Sahu is seen saying that “girls can be found in Bihar for Rs 20,000-25,000, and unmarried boys can marry them.”

Sahu’s statement is said to have been made at an event in Almora last month.

After the uproar over the statement and being trolled on social media, Sahu has also apologized. In a video released in this regard, Sahu said that his speech was distorted and that he was only discussing the marriage of a friend. He said, “If my words have offended or hurt anyone, I apologize with folded hands.”

However, despite his apology, the political controversy over the statement does not seem to be subsiding.

While the state unit of the BJP condemned the statement and tried to distance itself from Sahu, stating that he has no connection with the party, the Congress called it an insult to the daughters of India and demanded an apology from the BJP on this issue.

Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal said, “This statement by Minister Arya’s husband is an insult to the daughters of India, whether she is from Bihar, Kerala, or Uttarakhand.”
