LUCC chit fund scam: CBI arrests five alleged fraudsters

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five alleged scamsters from different parts of the country in LUCC chit fund scam in Uttarakhand.

The five accused are Sushil Gokhroo, Rajendra Singh Bisht, Tarun Kumar Mourya, Gaurav Rohilla and Mamta Bhandari, a CBI statement said on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Uttarakhand High Court had passed orders transferring all the FIRs pertaining to M/s Loni Urban Multi State Credit and Thrift Co-operative Society (LUCC) Chit Fund Scam to CBI in the Year 2025 based on which the CBI has registered a case on Nov 26, 2025 under various sections of IPC, BNS and Uttrakhand Protection of Interests of Depositors Act and Banning of Unregulated Deposits Schemes Act against various office bearers of LUCC and others.

Preliminary investigations so far have revealed that more than one lakh people were lured to invest in various unregulated deposit schemes of LUCC. The total investment/ deposits made by these depositors is estimated to the tune of Rs. 800 crores out of which the fraud amount is more than Rs 400 crores, CBI said.

“Investigations in this case are going on a day to day basis and special team has been constituted to track and trace the accused based on technical surveillance and source information. The main accused in this case is Sameer Agrawal, who along with his wife Saniya Agrawal have absconded abroad and CBI has opened notices and circulars against them.

Investigation has also revealed that several immovable properties were acquired by the accused persons and the state government has been asked to freeze these properties and take necessary action to distribute them to the victims under the provisions of Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes (BUDS) Act 2019.

The arrested accused persons are being produced before the Competent Court. The investigations are still on, the CBI said.
