The Industries Association of Uttarakhand (IAU) on Monday demanded security and stern action in the industrial estate areas like Selaque in Dehradun which has witnessed two days of the labour unrest.

After the Dehradun district administration imposed section 163 (144 CRPC) of the BNS, a calm returned in Selaquie area where the police arrested 10 persons in connection with the unrest. Later, a Dehradun court granted bail to all the persons who were arrested.

“We need full police protection as we are giving the minimum wages fixed by the government to the workers. The government should identify anti-social elements and take strong action against them,” IAU President Pankaj Gupta said.

Meanwhile, an eerie calm returned to Selaquie on Monday after the imposition of section 163. “Since yesterday (May 17), no demonstration has been reported in Selaqui aera,” a police official said.

On the other hand, Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat has alleged that the government is supressing the unrest by using force. “The government is using force to supress the unrest due to which the workers are feeling harassed,” Rawat said.
