Gunman fires at White House, killed (updating)

A lone gunman was killed by the Secret Service Agents after he fired gunshots at a security booth few yards away from the White House in Washington on Saturday evening.

Media reports said President Donald Trump was inside the White House when gunshots were being fired amid growing concerns related to his security.

Nasire Best (21) fired gunshots at a security booth just outside the White House complex before being fatally shot by the Secret Service Agents. A bystander was also injured and is in critical condition.

The incident occurred Just after 6:00 p.m. Nasire Best walked up to a Secret Service security checkpoint of the White House, pulled out a weapon from a bag and fired at officers. Officers returned fire and shot the suspect, critically injuring him. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead. A bystander was also struck.

Best had been arrested in July 2025 after he tried to access the White House, and he was subsequently sent to a psychiatric facility.

The shots were caught on video by various White House correspondents, who were also seen running for cover. A lockdown was placed on the White House, which contained reporters and journalists0 at the time of the incident and was lifted after an hour following Best’s death announcement.

The White House shooting came less than a month after another firing incident at the White House correspondents’ Association dinner in a Washington hotel which raised serious security concerns in the US where President Trump has already faced assassination attempts in the past.
