As chilling details continue to emerge in the Lohagad Fort murder case near Pune, investigators now believe that the killing of Ketan Agarwal (26) was the culmination of a series of failed murder attempts allegedly orchestrated by his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged accomplice, Chetan Chaudhary.
The murder plan began when Siya took Ketan to Lohagad Fort on June 18 to celebrate her birthday. By 10.30 am, Siya told authorities that Ketan had slipped while taking photographs and fallen into a deep valley. His body was recovered after a three-hour operation.
Ketan was the son of a prominent Maharashtra construction businessman, Vishal Agarwal, from Pimpri-Chinchwad near Pune. In February, he was engaged to Siya and the two were set to tie the knot in Udaipur in November. The couple’s family had planned a lavish wedding in Jaipur — they booked a luxury palace for Rs 17 crore and scheduled two private aircraft to fly wedding guests.
According to investigators, the conspiracy extended far beyond the fatal incident at Lohagad Fort. Ketan’s father has alleged that Siya had meticulously planned his son’s murder and had prepared multiple backup plans to ensure the crime was carried out. Police suspect that the attempt at Lohagad was not the first. Had the alleged “Plan C” at the fort failed, Siya was reportedly prepared to execute another “plan D” during a planned trip to Mahabaleshwar, he claimed.
Investigators say CCTV footage, call records and digital evidence played a crucial role in unraveling the case. A man allegedly identified as Chetan in hoodie was reportedly seen near the fort on the day of the incident, despite efforts to conceal his movements. Police are also probing suspicious phone activity and location data connected to the accused.
The existence of multiple alleged plans has strengthened the prosecution’s case that the murder was premeditated and carefully orchestrated rather than a crime committed in the heat of the moment.
The revelations have added a new dimension to the sensational case, with police examining evidence that suggests several unsuccessful attempts may have preceded the fatal incident that ultimately claimed Ketan’s life.
Police claim the two had been in a relationship for several months and viewed Ketan as an obstacle to their future together. Investigators have uncovered extensive communication between Siya and Chetan, including more than 2,000 phone calls and hundreds of hours of conversation over recent months.
The investigation has also claimed that there were earlier attempts on Ketan’s life. Police suspect that a previous incident at Lohagad Fort, in which Siya allegedly pushed Ketan and later claimed she was trying to save him from a snake, may have been an unsuccessful murder attempt. Authorities are examining whether multiple failed plots preceded the fatal incident on June 18.
Ketan and Siya had become engaged in February and were scheduled to marry later this year. The case has generated widespread public attention because of its resemblance to several recent high-profile cases involving alleged conspiracies by romantic partners.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could be considered as more evidence is examined.
Meanwhile, Chetan Chaudhary’s father has strongly defended him, claiming he is innocent and was standing far away from the place where Ketan fell into a deep gorge.
