DEHRADUN: Signalling that the Congress has begun gearing up in earnest for the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections, the party’s General Secretary (Organisation), K. C. Venugopal, on Thursday held a series of meetings with senior leaders, district presidents, frontal organisations and members of the party’s Political Affairs Committee during his two-day visit to Dehradun.
According to party sources, the high-level Political Affairs Committee meeting focused on chalking out a strategic roadmap for the Assembly elections due early next year. The discussions centred on strengthening the party organisation at the booth level, improving coordination among leaders and taking people’s issues more effectively to the grassroots.
Besides Venugopal, the meeting was also attended by Congress in-charge Kumari Selja, Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal, Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya and Election Campaign Committee chairman Pritam Singh, among other senior leaders.
Apart from the Political Affairs Committee meeting, Venugopal also reviewed the functioning of the party’s frontal organisations, departments and cells. He separately interacted with presidents of district and city Congress committees and later met senior party functionaries to assess the organisational preparedness ahead of the polls.
Addressing reporters after the meetings, Godiyal said Venugopal patiently heard the views of leaders from different levels of the organisation and stressed the importance of unity within the party.
“He gave only one message—that the strength of the Congress lies in remaining united. He urged all leaders to jointly expose the anti-people policies of the BJP and take public issues to the people with greater force,” Godiyal said.
The state Congress chief said Venugopal’s visit had infused fresh enthusiasm among party workers and reflected the seriousness with which the party’s central leadership is treating the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly elections.
“This is perhaps the first time that the Congress General Secretary (Organisation) has personally interacted with leaders across all organisational levels in Uttarakhand. It clearly shows that the party is attaching great importance to the state elections,” he said.
On the second and final day of his visit on Friday, Venugopal is scheduled to hold separate meetings with the Pradesh Congress president, the Congress Legislature Party leader and former state party presidents before returning to New Delhi.
