With the Uttarakhand Assembly elections drawing close, the BJP and Congress have stepped up their political activities, with both parties intensifying efforts to mobilise support and sharpen their electoral strategies.
The BJP held a key organisational meeting in Dehradun on Friday under the leadership of party’s state in-charge and national vice-president Ram Madhav, while Congress leader Kumari Selja visited Kichha in Udham Singh Nagar district to participate in the party’s Naya Yatra.
The parallel political activities signal an intensification of the campaign as the two principal rivals prepare to test their strength in the hill state.
At the BJP meeting, held at Bijapur Guest House, senior leaders reviewed ongoing organisational programmes and discussed plans to make them more effective from an electoral perspective.
According to state BJP media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan, the party has decided to highlight the achievements of the BJP governments at the Centre and in Uttarakhand, taking information about development and welfare schemes to households and seeking public support.
The meeting also resolved to counter what the BJP described as the Congress’s misleading claims and alleged double standards. The party said it would place its government’s record before voters and expose what it called the opposition’s false narrative especially related to the Ankita Bhandari murder case.
BJP leaders said the party would contest the election on development and public welfare issues, aiming to secure a third consecutive term in Uttarakhand.
Those present at the meeting included state co-in-charges Arvind Menon and Bansuri Swaraj, state BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt, state organisation general secretary Faniendra Nath Sharma, and state general secretaries Kundan Parihar, Deepti Rawat and Tarun Bansal.
Meanwhile, Selja’s visit to Kichha for the Congress’s Naya Yatra underlines the opposition party’s efforts to strengthen its campaign on the ground and reach voters ahead of the elections.
With both parties stepping up organisational outreach and political messaging, Uttarakhand is beginning to witness a sharper contest well ahead of polling. The BJP is banking on its government’s development and welfare record, while the Congress is seeking to build momentum through its campaign activities and criticism of the ruling party.
The coming months are likely to see more rallies, public outreach programmes and counter-attacks as the two parties seek to gain an advantage in the electoral battle.
