The Uttarakhand police has set up an special investigation team (SIT) to probe serious allegations made by Uttarakhand Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya and her husband Girdhari Lal Sahu against each other.

The SIT will be headed by Superintendent of Police (Rural) Dehradun Jaya Baluni, police said.

Arya on Thursday filed an FIR against her husband accusing him of assault, using caste-based abusive language, forgery and conspiring to kill her. The next day, Sahu hit back and accused his wife of amassing Rs 210 crore wealth through corruption and sought a probe.

After posting the video on social media, Arya’s health deteriorated and she was rushed to a hospital where she was kept under observation, police said.

The FIR was registered at the Cantt police station in Dehradun, SSP Dehradun Pramendra Singh Dobal said. Arya has also alleged that Sahu concealed an earlier marriage and had relationships with other women. She said she approached the police to seek protection for herself and the safety of her children.

She broke down repeatedly while describing her allegations in the video.

According to the complaint, Sahu allegedly used casteist slurs against Arya in the presence of staff at her government residence. She has also accused him of forging her signature on documents to show that she had been removed from the post of director in certain companies.

The FIR invokes provisions relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, bigamy, cruelty by a husband, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult and criminal intimidation. It also includes provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Arya also shared two audio clips on social media. In her complaint, she claimed that she had recently received an audio recording in which Sahu was allegedly heard speaking to a woman about conspiring to kill her. The allegations have not been independently verified.
