Doon University hosted its Deeksharambh programme (Student Induction Program), “Yuva Samvad,” on the gracious presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
During the programme, the Chief Minister inaugurated the University’s newly constructed Central Library and School of Biological Sciences buildings, along with Doon University Community Radio 88.4 FM.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that the Central Library of Doon University would be named after Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, a revered source of inspiration for generations.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dhami, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Surekha Dangwal, MLA Vinod Chamoli and other dignitaries. In her welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dangwal welcomed the newly admitted students to the University. She expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister for his continued support towards the development of Doon University and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to contributing to the educational and social development of Uttarakhand.
Addressing the Yuva Samvad programme, Dhami congratulated the University on the inauguration of the new Central Library and School of Biological Sciences buildings as well as the Community Radio 88.4 FM. He also extended his best wishes to the newly admitted students and outlined several initiatives aimed at strengthening the University’s academic and institutional development.
Among the key announcements, the Chief Minister approved the creation of academic posts, in accordance with UGC regulations, for the Spanish, German, French, Chinese, English and Japanese language departments under the School of Languages. He also gave approval for the appointment of two positions—Coordinator and Technical Assistant—for the Community Radio. In view of the transportation challenges faced by students, he further agreed to provide two electric buses to the University.
Encouraging the students to contribute to the nation’s progress, Dhami called upon the younger generation to remain committed to the country and continuously strive for excellence. He emphasized the importance of advancing academically in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, while highlighting the Uttarakhand Government’s continued efforts to promote research and innovation.
During the Yuva Samvad, students actively engaged with the Chief Minister and raised questions on a range of issues, including skill development schemes, the establishment of new educational institutions in remote areas such as Khatima, employment opportunities, promotion of mental health and counselling facilities, road safety and traffic management.
Responding to the students, Dhami appreciated their active participation and encouraged them to express their concerns and aspirations openly. He assured them that the government would continue working towards strengthening quality educational and research institutions in remote and underserved areas and would explore the establishment of new institutions in the future.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the need to develop a sustainable model of growth for Uttarakhand that maintains a balance between the state’s economy and ecology. He urged students to remain prepared for rapid technological and social changes and to develop the skills and adaptability required for the future.
Special guest and MLA Vinod Chamoli appreciated the academic quality of Doon University and emphasized the importance of strengthening City Management as part of the University’s Urban Management programme. He described the initiative as a significant step towards preparing capable professionals who can contribute to transforming cities and strengthening the development of the state. He also urged students to develop themselves academically as well as spiritually to help build a strong and secure future for India.
During the programme, the book “Ancient Wisdom, Modern Leadership: Indian Knowledge System for Managers,” edited by Prof. H.C. Purohit and Dr. Prachi Pathak, was also released.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by University Registrar Durgesh Dimri. The event was conducted by Prof. H.C. Purohit and was attended by faculty members, students and other dignitaries.
The Yuva Samvad programme reflected Doon University’s commitment to providing its students with opportunities for meaningful dialogue, academic growth and active participation in the development of Uttarakhand and the nation.
