Dehradun: The Police on Sunday took action against eight youths after a video showing them allegedly violating traffic rules and creating a dangerous spectacle on a Dehradun road went viral on social media.
The video showed several youths riding on the windows and roofs of a Thar Roxx and another vehicle while allegedly taking out a rally-like procession on GMS Road near Balliwala. The act not only violated traffic rules but also posed a serious risk to the safety of the youths themselves as well as other commuters on the busy road.
Taking cognisance of the viral video, Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobal directed the officer in charge of Vasant Vihar police station to identify those involved and initiate appropriate legal action.
Acting promptly, Vasant Vihar police examined the video and traced the vehicles and their drivers. Following the investigation, eight youths who were travelling in the vehicles were identified and brought to the police station along with the vehicles.
The concerned vehicle was seized under the Motor Vehicles Act as part of the action. However, the youths were let off after the warning.
The Dehradun Police appealed to citizens to follow traffic regulations and act responsibly while using public roads. The police also warned that strict and effective action would be taken against anyone who violates traffic rules and endangers the lives of others.
The action came amid growing concern over videos of reckless driving, vehicle stunts and dangerous celebrations being uploaded on social media platforms, often encouraging others to imitate such behaviour.
