IIT PhD student from Nainital drowns in Ganga Canal near Mangalaur

A PhD student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee was drowned in the Ganga Canal and his body was found on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

The body of Mohit Arya, a native of Nainital in Uttarakhand, was found floating in the canal on Sunday night at the Asafnagar Barrage in the Manglaur area.

Arya, who was studying in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at IIT Roorkee had been missing from the campus for the past three or four days. neither the police nor his family members had received any information regarding his disappearance.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the death of the sixth-semester student appears to be a case of suicide as no signs of injury, physical assault, or violence were found on the body.
