Heavy rains in Uttarakhand gives big relief from heatwave

The heatwave conditions abated in Uttarakhand and some other parts of north India following heavy rains since Thursday night.

After a brief pause on Friday, the rains again lashed Dehradun and several other parts of the state in the evening.

The rains on Thursday night were accompanied by a strong storm that hit several parts of the state uprooting trees. In Dhanaulti eco park, the storm uprooted several trees damaging swings and other entertainment facilities.

Moderate to Severe Thunderstorm activity with squally wind speed likely to occur over Northwest India, Central India and East India during 29th – 31st May, IMD said.

Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/Hail, gusty winds (speed 50-60 Kmph gusting up to 70 Kmph) and very intense spell of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Hills districts of Uttarakhand. Heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (speed 40-50 Kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in plains districts of Uttarakhand.

The overnight rains plumet the temperatures by several notches with Dehradun recording maximum of 33.9 degree C and minimum also fell to 17.8 degree C. Light to moderate rain / thunderstorm / Snowfall (at places with height 4000m and above) are likely to occur at many places in districts of Uttarakhand on May 30.
