Dehradun: Ayurveda practitioner and researcher Vaidya Balendu Prakash passed away at the age of 67.
Born on March 14, 1959, in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Balendu Prakash was the son of noted Ayurveda practitioner Vaidya Chandra Prakash. He completed his early education in Meerut and later earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree before pursuing BAMS (Ayurvedacharya) from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak.
He learned the traditional Ayurvedic discipline of Rasa Shastra from his father, a therapeutic system involving the use of metals and herbs in Ayurvedic formulations.
In 1989, he shifted his base to Dehradun and established the Vaidya Chandra Prakash Cancer Research Foundation, dedicated to research in Ayurveda. Over the years, he became known for his work in Ayurvedic research, particularly in the field of cancer-related studies. He was awarded Padam Shree in 1999 for his research work.
His death has been mourned by the Ayurveda fraternity and those associated with traditional medicine. His contribution towards promoting Ayurvedic research and preserving ancient healing practices remains significant.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed condolences over the death of Vaid Balendu.
