After abandoning her on a road in Dehradun in darkness of night, student parents of a newborn baby girl have agreed to take her back.

Police Station Clement Town received information about a newborn baby lying on the roadside at Pant Marg in Dehradun on the night of June 3. The police immediately reached the spot and took the baby to a hospital. After the first aid, the baby was admitted to a child home at Kedarpuram area.

In view of the sensitivity of the case, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun Ajai Singh ordered thorough investigations in the case.

During the investigations, the police collected CCTV footages and saw a boy and a girl coming on a two-wheeler on the night of July 3 and leaving the baby on the roadside. Police also started tracing the number of the person who had informed the child helpline about the newborn baby on the roadside.

As the suspicion grew, the police summoned the caller. The caller told the police that he was father of the girl and the girl who came with him was mother.

Police found that both the boy and the girl were students of two different private colleges in Dehradun and were in relationship for the past 2-3 years.

This relationship gave birth to a newborn girl on July 3. Due to family compulsions, the girl and her lover left the newborn on the roadside and later informed the helpline.

Police has summoned the family members of the boy and the girl on the issue. Both are being questioned in detail and counselled, further necessary legal action is being taken, police officials said.

“The parents of the child have agreed to take back the child,” said SHO Clement Town.
