Senior IAS officer Anand Bhardhan of 1992 batch was on Friday appointed as new Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, an official notification said.

Bardhan, who was serving as additional Chief Sercretary in the state government, would take charge from April 1, it said.

Bardhan will replace Radha Raturi, whose second extension as the Chief Secretary would end on March 31. Raturi is the first woman Chief Secretary in the state.

Raturi is likely to become the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIS) for a period of five years.

After taking over as the CS, she has taken many initiatives which include pushing the infrastructure projects on faster pace in the state. She is also focusing on the social welfare schemes especially related to poor children and women in the state.
