Bhojpuri singer Seema Singh’s nomination rejected

Seema Singh, a well-known Bhojpuri film actress, who recently entered politics by joining Chirag Paswan’s party, would not be able to contest the Bihar assembly election after her nomination was rejected by the Election Commission.

“The nomination of Seema Singh, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) candidate from the Madhaura assembly seat in Chhapra district, has been rejected”, an official said.

This is being seen as a setback to the NDA alliance just few days before the Bihar Assembly elections.

The official said some technical flaws were found during the scrutiny of Singh’s nomination papers, leading the election officer to declare her nomination invalid. Following the rejection of Seema Singh’s nomination, the NDA’s position in the Madhaura seat is considered weak. This seat is scheduled for voting in the first phase, for which the nomination process has already been completed.

The Madhaura assembly constituency was to see a direct contest between the NDA and the Grand Alliance, but the rejection of Seema Singh’s nomination has dealt a blow to the NDA. The contest will now be a direct contest between the RJD and the Jansuraj Party. The RJD candidate from Madhaura is Jitendra Kumar Rai, who is the sitting MLA and has also been a minister in the Bihar government.

Meanwhile, Paswan said his party has urged the Election Commission to resolve the issue after submitting a representation. “We have submitted our representation to the Election Commission. I believe this issue has arisen due to a minor oversight, and I am hopeful that it will be resolved in the coming few days,” Paswan said
