A youth from Chamoli district was found hanging from a tree under suspicious circumstances near the Hemkund Sahib Yatra route in Uttarakhand prompting strong protests from locals on Monday demanding a stern action.
A large number of people gathered at Gopeshwar and demanded a CBI probe into the death of Manoj Singh Bisht (22), who hailed from Nandnagar in Chamoli district.
Accusing the police of negligence in finding the culprits, the angry people also raised slogans like ‘justice for Manoj and punishment for the criminals’. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari.
The police said the body of Bisht, who had gone to Hemkund Sahib in search of job, was found hanging from a tree under suspicious circumstances in the forests near the Hemkund Yatra route on Sunday.
At the same time, Bisht’s family members said that he remained incommunicado since June 29 and they had also informed the police about this. The family alleged that the police showed undue delay in finding the youth.
Meanwhile, Chamoli Superintendent of Police Sarvesh Panwar said that Bisht’s family on Monday lodged a complaint with the police against a mule operator where the deceased was working, on the basis of which a case has been registered and action has been initiated.
He said that a fair and transparent investigation is being conducted into the matter and the culprits will not be spared.
Panwar said that the post-mortem of the body conducted by a panel of doctors has also been videographed.
He said that a missing report of Bisht was lodged at Govindghat police station on July 6 and the police was continuously searching for him.
