Two non-specific bomb threats in Nainital and Uttarkashi on Monday cause alarm prompting the police to conduct security checks at various courts in the two districts in Uttarakhand.
However, investigations revealed that the bomb threat in Nainital was hoax even as the court campuses were vacated, top police officials said.
“Nainital Police received information today from the District Judge of Nainital* that an unknown person had sent a threatening message to the District Judge of Nainital’s official email address. Given the sensitivity and seriousness of the matter, Nainital Police are taking immediate action and conducting intensive checking operations,” a statement of the Nainital police said.
Under the direction of SSP Nainital Dr. Manjunath T.C., subordinate senior officers and station in-charges, including SP Nainital Dr. Jagdish Chandra and SP Haldwani Manoj Kumar Katyal visited various court premises including Nainital, Haldwani and Ramnagar with policemen conducting effective checking and frisking operations with the help of BDS teams and dog squads.
All police teams are actively working within the SOPs and will investigate the threatening message and take effective legal action, the SSP said. An FIR is also being registered in this regard.
In Uttarkashi district also, the police launched searches and vacated the court premises. A bomb disposal squad was also being requisitioned by the Uttarkashi police from Dehradun for the search purpose. Till the search by the bomb disposal squad is completed in Uttarkashi, the district court premises would remain closed, police said.
