Four killed in Dharali cloudburst: DM (updating)

Four people were killed when a cloudburst triggered heavy floods in Khirgard nullah that swept away several houses at Dharali area of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

District Magistrate Uttarkashi Prashant Arya confirmed the death of four people in the cloudburst.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also said the cloudburst near Dharali has caused heavy damage. Dhami, who is returning to Dehradun after his tour to Tirupati area in Andhra Pradesh, said rescue teams of Army, SDRF, NDRF and local administration were working on war-footing in the area. He expressed concern over the disaster caused by the cloudburst following heavy rains during the past 48 hours in the hill state.

Viral videos of the disaster showed several houses and hotels swept away in the heavy floods in Khir Ganga river triggered by the cloudburst in Dharali.

An army officer after posting videos of the damage caused by the cloudburst said the disaster occurred around 1345 hours and one injured has been rushed to a nearby hospital.
