Scores of Congress workers on Friday courted arrest in Dehradun seeking a CBI probe under the supervision of a high court judge and two other demands on the Sept 21 question paper leak of the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate-level examination.
The police took the Congress workers into preventive custody when they under the leadership of state Congress President Karan Mahara were proceeding towards the Chief Minister’s residence.
The other two demands include removal of UKSSSC Chairman G S Martoliya and cancellation of the Sept 21 exam, party vice president Suryakant Dhasmana said. The party would continue its protests until the three demands are met, he said.
The congress march came after unemployed youths deferred their dharna till Oct 10 on Monday as Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami accepted the major demands.
The Chief Minister has recommended a CBI probe in the paper leak. He indicated that other demands would also be looked into. However, a separate probe under a retired judge of the High Court would also continue. The government has already appointed Justice U C Dhyani in this regard.
The Chief Minister said the recent paper leak incident is being investigated by an SIT under the supervision of a retired High Court judge. “The Commission has also begun its work. Since the youths are still demanding a CBI investigation, therefore, the government will recommend a CBI inquiry into this matter. There will be no obstruction in this matter,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the government has conducted more than 25,000 government recruitments in a transparent manner in the last four years, and there have been no complaints.
He said the complaint has been made in only one case, so the government is fully committed to removing all doubts from the minds of the youth. The Chief Minister said that last week, when the youths met him, he had made it clear that the government wants them to have no distrust, suspicion, or doubt.
