Scores of Congress workers on Tuesday held protest march in Dehradun demanding dismissal of the Uttarakhand BJP government on what they called deteriorating law and order situation which included a spurt in crime against women.

State Congress President Karan Mahara, Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya and other top state leaders also participated.

Raising slogans against the government, the Congress workers marched on the streets of Dehradun to proceed towards the Raj Bhawan. However, they were stopped in the midway and taken into preventive custody. Later they were released from police Lines area.

Congress state President Mahara climbed over the barricades and many leaders and workers sat on a dharna on the road and slogans were raised against the government for a long time.

Addressing the workers, Mahara attacked the government on the “deteriorating” law and order situation in the state, calling it a “total failure on all fronts”. Cases of violence, rape and murder against women are on the rise, he said.

“Sad thing is that in most of these cases, the responsible persons and officials of the BJP government and the ruling party are involved,” he said.
