On the occasion of Diwali, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday spent some time in Majhada village in Sahastradhara area in Dehradun which was ravaged by heavy floods last month.
Many people were dead and uprooted in the unprecedented floods in the area on the night of Sept 15.
Dhami met the disaster-affected people of Majhada and other areas of Sahastradhara and listened to their problems. He extended Diwali greetings to them. The Chief Minister also conducted an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction work.
The Chief Minister interacted with a large number of women, children, and villagers. He also directed the construction of a protective wall to protect the village.
The Chief Minister assured all possible assistance and rehabilitation. He stated that the state government stands firmly with the disaster-affected people. The Chief Minister said that Diwali is not just a festival of lights, but of compassion and unity. “The light of hope and smiles must continue to shine in our lives”, he said.
The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite reconstruction work in the disaster-affected areas.
