Eight people were killed and 20 injured in a major car explosion near Red Fort area in Old Delhi this evening.
It was not yet clear whether there was any terror link in the blast.
The explosion occurred around 6.52 P.M. in a moving I20 Hyundai car that ripped apart many nearby vehicles with a deafening sound. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said NIA and other agencies have started investigations in the explosion.
The impact of the blast was so huge that bodies of many people were torn apart.
Big blood stains and body pieces were scattered around the blast scene.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the crime scene and LNJP Hospital and met the injured persons in the ICU. Shah later confirmed the death of eight people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation with the Home Minister and other officials. He expressed condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the blast.
Immediately after the blast, a high alert was sounded in many states especially in Delhi, Mumbai Lucknow, Srinagar and Jammu.
