Factory owner held after fake medicines seized

Uttarakhand STF on Friday arrested the owner of a factory in Dehradun which was making fake medicines of various reputed companies. With this, four members of this organized gang including the kingpin have been arrested.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) STF Navneet Singh Bhullar said Devi Dayal Gupta, the owner of Dr Mittal Laboratories factory, who was absconding for a long time was arrested from Dehradun. He was a native of Ashok Vihar Phase 2, Delhi.

He said that on June 1, one Santosh Kumar was arrested from Selaqui area of Dehradun district with a large quantity of fake boxes, labels and QR codes of wrappers of medicines of many reputed medicine companies like Glenmark, Ipca Laboratories, Intas Pharma, Alkem Lab, Dr Ready Laboratories, Cadila Pharmaceutical etc.

Earlier, the STF had arrested the kingpin of the gang Naveen Bansal and another accused Aditya Kala.

Bhullar said that during interrogation of Bansal, it was learnt that he used to get fake medicines from Dr Mittal Laboratories located in Sahaspur area of Dehradun district and send them to Haryana, Rajasthan and other places. He said that on the basis of the information, a search for Gupta was started but by then he had absconded.

The SSP said that after a long search, Gupta was arrested from Dehradun on Friday.

Gupta used to get fake medicines made in large quantities from his factory and give them to Bansal. From 2021 till the case came to light this year, he illegally prepared about 1.42 crore tablets and about 2 lakh capsules and gave them to Bansal’s fake companies Reelin Pharmatech and B Chem Biotech, which used to pack them in the wrappers of well-known pharmaceutical companies and supply them to various cities of North India.

The counterfeit medicines being supplied include tablets of Pantoprazole 40, Diclofam SP, Levocetirizine, Prochlorperazine, Almodipine, Telmisartan.
