Flash floods hit Tharali, one dead, one missing (updating)

After a series of cloudbursts in the western Himalayas, flash floods struck Tharali town in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on the intervening night of and Friday and Saturday, police said.

One person was dead and one went missing in the floods and debris as over 2 dozen houses and some market areas of Tharali were inundated. Two houses and some vehicles were damaged.

Rescue operation by the SDRF, NDRF, police aided by other local agencies were in full swing, top government officials said.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also monitoring the situation and asked the district administration to provide all possible help to the affected people.

👉 Villagers are being taken to safer places.
👉 SDRF and NDRF teams have also left for relief and rescue work.
