With heavy rains continuing in Uttarakhand, four members of a family including a four-day old infant were killed and three injured when a car fell into a canal at Haldwani area in Nainital district on Wednesday, police said.
The family was returning home to nearby Kitchha town after the delivery at a Haldwani hospital.
All the four died inside the car and the remaining injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Among those killed included a newly born child and three others members of the family.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the accident. “Received the tragic news of a car accident in Haldwani, resulting in the death of four people and injuries to three others. I pray to God for speedy recovery of all the injured,” Dhami said on X.
Heavy rains are continuing in Uttarakhand after the arrival of monsoon last week. The heavy rains have triggered landslides at several areas in the hill state killing many people during the past few days.
