A gangster and two policemen were injured in what appeared to be a filmy style shootout in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand on Wednesday.

The daylight shootout on the busy Luxor flyover in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district was nothing short of a scene from a Bollywood movie.

The firing took place in the afternoon when Vinay Tyagi, a gangster from Meerut, was being taken from Roorkee jail to appear before a local court in Luxor. As the police vehicle carrying Tyagi got struck in a traffic jam on the flyover, unidentified gunmen riding on two bikes started spraying bullets on him despite the heavy police escort.

Tyagi sustained two gunshot wounds and two policemen escorting him were also injured with the people running helter-skelter, police said. Later, the shooters escaped.

The shooting sent shockwaves in the entire area.

Police has launched a massive search operation to apprehend the shooters.
