Girl drowns in Mangalore canal after being pushed by father (updating)

A man was arrested after he pushed his daughter into a canal which caused her death in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Saturday when Pradeep Kumar Dhiman, a resident of Haridwar’s SIDCUL area, took her 17 year old daughter Prachi to Mangalore area in Haridwar where he pushed her into the swollen canal from a bridge. She died of drowning, police said. The body of Prachi has been recovered.

Later, police arrested the accused. During the preliminary investigations, Dhiman said he killed his daughter because she wanted to get married to a boy whom he disliked.

A case was registered against the accused at Mangalore police station.
