Known for its vast meadows and endemic alpine flowers, the high altitude Valley of Flowers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, was reopened for the summer season from Sunday.

Tourists can now visit the Valley of Flowers and enjoy the bounty of flowers of different colours some with rich medicinal values. The park authorities have given permission to the first group of 83 tourists to visit the Valley of Flowers.

Thousands of tourists from home and abroad visit the park area every year which is famous for the unique flora and fauna.

In view of the botanical diversity, UNESCO has listed it as the World Heritage Sites.

This valley opens for tourists every year in June, which is closed after snowfall in October.

Around the arrival of monsoon, flowers start blooming in the valley, which is at its peak by September. During this time, hundreds of species of flowers like Brahma Kamal, Blue Poppy, Cobra Lily bloom.
