Gullible Hindu girls being lured for conversion: SSP

The Uttarakhand police with the help of the Uttar Pradesh police has unearthed a plot where gullible Hindu girls were being lured to embrace other religion through social media.

At a press conference, SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh said Sadhna (name changed) was a minor girl from Dehradun when she became a friend with Abu Talib, a resident of Kidwai Nagar Khalapar Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, through Facebook. As Sadhna was not keeping good relations with her family, she was prodded by Talib for conversion, Singh said.

Under a well-planned strategy, Talib told Sadhna that her lifestyle will improve if she accepts conversion. Soon Talib sent a religious scripture to the victim on WhatsApp and forced her read it. Once Sadhna read the scripture, Talib told her that she has been converted and changed her name to Maryam. Talib soon introduced her to his friend Ayan of Dhanbad, Jharkhand through social media and hatched another plan where she would elope with Ayan to get married.

During the investigations, one more such case came to light. In this case, the victim Sumaiya was being encouraged from time to time by many people who came in contact with her to leave Hinduism. Since there is a strict conversion law and implementation of the UCC in Uttarakhand, victim Sumaiya was called to Delhi for conversion and marriage.

All the six persons including a woman from Goa have since been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police in connection with the conversion cases. A team of the Uttarakhand police recently went to Agra for questioning these six accused as they have been lodged in jail there.

The SSP claimed that the funding is also being provided from places like Dubai for the purpose of conversion in India.
