Gulshan Haider, a revenue official, who swallowed currency notes after being caught red-handed by the Uttarakhand vigilance department for taking bribe, has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a Dehradun court, top officials said on Thursday.
Haider, who was working as patwari in Kalsi Tehsil of Dehradun district, was arrested red-handed on Monday while accepting Rs 2,000 from the complainant in lieu of making domicile certificate and caste certificate. Meanwhile, to avoid legal action, the accused swallowed four 500 rupee currency notes given by the complainant into his mouth.
Immediately, the trap team of vigilance department took Haider to the nearest health center and made efforts to recover the bribe notes. On the advice of doctors, the accused was subjected to ultrasound and CT scan, the reports of which have not been received, the officials said.
The officials said that on the basis of audio-video recording of the incident, chemical found on the hands of the accused while accepting bribe notes and evidence of independent witnesses, a case was registered against the accused Patwari in Vigilance Police Station Sector Dehradun and he was produced before a designated court on Tuesday. The court has sent Haider to jail for 14 days.
The Officials also termed the reports circulating on the social media regarding Haider being released on bail as ‘misleading and false’. “Haider is currently in jail,” a top official said.
