Harish Rawat, Pritam Singh demand CBI probe in George Everest scam

A Congress delegation led by former Uttarakhand party Presidents Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh on Thursday met Governor Gurmit Singh and demanded a CBI probe into the George Everest estate scam.

In the memorandum, Congress leaders claimed that 172 acres of land worth Rs 30,000 crore  was handed over to Acharya Balkrishna’s company for an annual rent of only Rs 1 crore. The company was benefited by last-minute changes in the tender process, it claimed.

Now, preparations are underway to transfer the Vairagi Camp land in Haridwar to the same company owned by Balkrishna, the leaders claimed.

The memorandum demanded that the order allocating George Everest land to the company should be revoked.

A CBI investigation into the matter should be conducted under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge.

The tender process for Vairagi Camp should be stopped.

The delegation stated that the government has completely failed in the recent disasters that hit Uttarakhand during the monsoon season.

For three days, there has been no electricity or water in the affected areas, including Dehradun. Relief and rehabilitation work has come to a standstill.

The risk of waterborne diseases is increasing, but no preparations have been made.

Besides Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh, other members of the delegation include Senior Vice President Surendra Kumar, senior Congress leader Lalchand Sharma, General Secretary Godavari Thapali, former MLA Kedarnath Manoj Rawat, former MLA Rajkumar, Chief Spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni, General Secretary Mahendra Negi, and Farmer Workers President Sushil Rathi.
