A woman doctor who was pursuing a Master of Surgery (MS) degree at a private medical college was found dead in suspicious circumstances in her car in Dehradun.

Preliminary investigation revealed that 25-year-old Dr Tanvi, a native of Ambala in Haryana, allegedly committed suicide by administering a lethal injection to herself.

Pursuing an MS in Ophthalmology at the Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences (SGRRIMHS) in Dehradun, Dr Tanvi was found lying unconscious in her car parked on Kargi Road near the medical college by her father Dr. Lalit Mohan, in the wee hours of Wednesday. He rushed her to a hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Giving details, a police official said Dr. Tanvi had sent a message informing her mother that she would return home from the hospital by 12:30 AM on Tuesday night. However, when she failed to arrive home even after a considerable delay and did not answer her phone, her mother who was staying with Dr Tanvi in Dehradun, alerted her father in Ambala.

Dr Mohan rushed to Dehradun from Ambala that very night and began search near the hospital at Patel Nagar area in Dehradun. On the way, he spotted Tanvi’s car, and found her in unconscious state. A cannula was inserted into Tanvi’s arm, and several vials of injections were found lying nearby. Her father managed to break the car window using a stone and pulled her out. He took her to the SGRRIMHS hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Tanvi’s father has alleged that Dr. Priyanka Gupta, the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, had been subjecting his daughter to mental harassment, thereby compelling her to take an extreme step.

Acting on the complaint filed by Dr Mohan, a case was registered against Dr. Gupta and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Dr. Tanvi had been suffering from depression for quite some time.
