The Dehradun Police and the Special Task Force (STF) in a joint operation on Sunday busted an illegal casino being operated from the Saliyawala forests in Dehradun and arrested 12 persons.
Acting on a confidential information, the police raided the casino which was being operated from a house in Saliyawala where 12 people, including three from Delhi, were found gambling in a big room with coins. Police arrested all of them from the spot under the Gambling Act.
Among the gamblers, a Nepalese man has also been arrested.
The owner of the house identified as Shashank Gupta (38) of Gurugram, Haryana, who was also present in the casino, has also been arrested.
In the raid, 1900 casino coins, Rs 89000 cash, 12 mobile phones and a vehicle have been recovered from the gambling den. Police said that information about the bank accounts of gamblers is being collected.
During the interrogation, the gamblers said that they play gambling in casinos frequently for which they keep visiting different states. All of them were in contact with Gupta and other people living in Dehradun.
Besides Gupta, the other arrested have been identified as Nikhil Jatav, resident of Mangolpuri, Delhi, Gaurav Maggo, resident of Kirti Nagar, Delhi, Himanshu Arora, resident of Ashok Nagar, Delhi, Umesh Rawat (42), resident of Prem Nagar, Dehradun city, Chandrashekhar (32), resident of Vikas Nagar, Dehradun district, Jatin Rana, Manohar Singh Chauhan and Charan Singh Chauhan, all from Tyuni, Dehradun district, Vinod, resident of Purola, Uttarkashi, Jeevan Sharma, resident of Gandhi Road, Dehradun city and Keshav alias Bablu Singh Dhami, resident of Mahakali district, Nepal.
