The entire staff posted at the Iqbalpur Police Post in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand has been suspended with immediate effect in the wake of a viral audio related to illegal mining.
“Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the entire staff posted at the Iqbalpur Police Post in the Haridwar district has been suspended with immediate effect,” an official statement said.
The action came after the role of the police personnel was found to be suspicious in a case involving illegal mining in the Iqbalpur area. After the murder of notorious gangster Vikram Sharma in Dehradun last month, the opposition has accused the government of promoting mining mafias in the state.
Given the gravity of the matter, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Haridwar, Navneet Singh Bhullar took an immediate decision to suspend the entire staff of the police post comprising six personnel, including the Post In-charge and has ordered a detailed inquiry in the case.
The suspended police personnel include Sub-Inspector Naveen Singh Chauhan (Post In-charge, Iqbalpur), Head Constable Virendra Sharma, Head Constable Harendra, Constable Vipin Kumar, Constable Devesh Singh, and Constable Pradeep.
Chief Minister Dhami has categorically stated that illegal mining, corruption, or any form of irregularity will not be tolerated under any circumstances within the state. He emphasized that if the very officials entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining law and order are found to be negligent in their duties or involved in improper activities, strict action will be taken against them.
The Chief Minister has directed the officials to ensure a fair and expeditious investigation into the matter and to initiate stringent legal action against anyone found guilty.
