Incessant rains continue in Uttarakhand, schools closed again (updating)

Schools remained closed for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in Dehradun and some other parts of Uttarakhand amid a high alert of the incessant rains that continued to pour in the hill state during the past 48 hours that left three people dead, crippled normal life and triggered landslides.

Most of the rivers including Ganga were flowing at the danger level in Haridwar, Rishikesh and several places.

Vehicular traffic on several roads in Uttarakhand remained affected due to landslides. Schools in Dehradun and some other parts of the state remained closed due to heavy rains on Monday.

Two people were killed near Sidhbali temple in Kotdwar area of Pauri district when a Max vehicle was hit by boulders on Monday. One child was washed away in a swollen river at Bajpur area of Kumaon region on Sunday.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed all the district magistrates to remain present on the ground zero in view of the heavy rains in the state.

The IMD said heavy-to-very heavy rains are likely to continue over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh during the next 2 days with isolated extremely heavy falls over Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

In Dehradun, several rivers including Tamsa at Tapkeshwar temple was flowing at danger level. In Haridwar and Rishikesh, the Ganga was flowing almost at danger level.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) has been recorded at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Kerala during the past 24 hours, IMD said.

Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Uttarakhand during 04th-10th; Himachal Pradesh during 04th-08th; Jammu Kashmir, Punjab on 04th & 05th; Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh during 04th-06th; East Uttar Pradesh on 04th & 05th August,

The IMD also issued warning of heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh on 05th August also.
